"One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way." Frank Smith
We aim to inspire children to develop a love of languages, foster their curiosity and deepen their understanding of different countries, cultures and people.
We are learning Arabic which is the fifth most spoken language in the world; research identifies it as the fourth most important language for future job opportunities, after Spanish, Mandarin and French.
We intend to help pupils in Key Stage 2 to grow into confident and reflective language learners and to provide them with a foundation that will equip them for further language learning.
Our Arabic curriculum is designed to help children aquire the basic skills of reading, writing and speaking in Arabic, along with inter-cultural understanding, as we recognise these are the key building blocks to learning a language.
Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. (National Curriculum)
