Pupil Premium

St Thomas' Pupil Premium

Background

The Pupil Premium (PP) is a grant given to schools for each child who claims free school meals currently or who has done so in the past six years. Research has shown that pupils who have been or are on free school meals do not attain as highly as other children in school. The government provides this grant so we can allocate additional support to ensure that disadvantaged children do attain well. The support can be in a short burst or over a longer period such as a term or a year or more. It may take the form of one-to-one support, small group teaching or additional teacher support in class. It could also be enrichment or access to opportunities that enhance learning and aspiration.

Aims

Our main aims are:

  • To close the gap in attainment for PP pupils in all subjects
  • To maintain high expectations and standards for all PP pupils
  • To ensure that all pupils are given the same opportunities to develop their potential and participate in activities in and outside school

This statement details our school’s use of pupil premium (and recovery premium for the
2022 to 2023 academic year) funding to help improve the attainment of our
disadvantaged pupils.
It outlines our pupil premium strategy, how we intend to spend the funding in this
academic year and the effect that last year’s spending of pupil premium had within our
school.
